I Do Not Define Myself By How Many Roadblocks Have Appeared In My Path..... Embracing Your Struggles

Trust your God!

 Embrace your struggles

He didn't bring you this far to leave you in the desert.

This morning this is what was placed in my heart by God I believe. It just came to me and I thought to share. It might help someone, somewhere trying to figure out this path we are all treading on called life.

We are all going through different struggles in our lives. We are all trying to figure this thing called life. Sometimes it might all feel overwhelming and beyond our control but that’s where the Master steps in and says, ‘’be still and know that I am God’’. That is all good when the Lord steps to our rescue but do you believe in him? Do you trust him to do what’s right by you? Are you patient enough to wait upon Him?

Sometimes trusting God is the hardest thing for us to do. But we are so quick to put our trust in man and other worldly things which are temporarily beneficial to us. We walk into a shop and the juice says Organic. We waste no time in buying that juice, we don’t even question if it’s true or not. Why... because we believe and trust them. Why can’t you give that same level of trust if not more to the one who created you? Why is it so hard?

Time and age has taught me to put my all in God because everything else fades…but his love. When the tough gets going and when life shows you its true colours….mate you have no choice but to go on bended knees and call upon his name. But you know what they say; if you haven’t been there you wouldn't really know. You have to have experienced LIFE before you can actually live life.

I can go on and on about my struggles but that would bore you and I don’t want to do that. However through all your struggles remember to learn the lessons life is teaching you. That way you have fewer chances of repeating it again and more importantly inspiring and motivating another life. Don’t underestimate the power of the lesson life teaches us. Life is the greatest teacher on earth. If you see any success story ask for the story behind it and that story will not consist of sunny days and rosy mornings. It is a story of failures upon failures that was used as a stepping stone to gain that success story. It will consist of blood, sweat and tears. Remember, Storms come to teach us how to ride the waves perfectly.

Your past is your past, yes...gone and the hard truth is you can’t erase any part of it. You can go get the strongest bleach available and try to make it look good but the unfortunate part is when the bleach will fail. It won’t work. Stop living in your past and start paving way for the future.

Life can really get rough sometimes so much that moving on is the hardest thing to do. Sometimes you just don’t know where to start and other times you wished you had never experienced the past. Other times we wish we can go back and do things differently. We become bitter and the will to move on is now deemed impossible.

We then start to question everything we once believe in and everything we once trusted. We start to ask God why. See, when things start to slide downhill we tend to ask God questions. When what we should have done in the first place is to put every single one of our burdens, decisions and undertakings before him in prayers. He knows best as much as we might tend to think we know it all with all our college and university degrees and titles. My friend, till life teaches you, you know nothing!

I came across this poem below and it actually inspired this post. It just touched a part of me this morning. I couldn't let it fly by without me sharing. You know what they say, sharing is caring …..Eat, digest, fill up your soul and share so others can partake too.

You Are Not Your Struggles....
You Are That Which Has Emerged From The Fire!

My favourite part of the whole poem is the end where it says ‘I am that which has emerged from the fire’’. That is one powerful statement. Anything that has been through hell and back, comes out more beautiful, stronger and better. That is what you are my friend.
Don't be scare of getting burnt, you won't because God's got this. Oh yes he does!

You are not your failures, you are not your struggles, you are not your mishaps, and you are not your scars. You are that which has emerged from the fire and that fire is all the bad days you've been through, that God has pulled you through from. It is the past which thinking about alone brings chills to your spines. The fire is those days when you are so close to throwing the towel in, those days when the sun refuses to shine. The fire is those nights that were filled with tears and worries, those nights that you feel like you’re all alone. The fire is that which has made you who you are today. Looking back, the Lord has given you a reason to smile. Even if it’s a tiny weeny reason.

You can hustle as hard as you like, work your butt off to make that money but first God has to bless your hustle. If God is not in that hustle it would be fruitless. Above all, don’t forget to pray. Prayer is the most important conversation of the day. I’m not going to tell you I pray every day because I don’t but whenever I have that second I just have a word or two with the Lord. He deserves it. It’s the least we can do. Prayer is a powerful weapon and can counteract any form of weapon going against God’s will for your life. Yes it’s that powerful.

Don’t keep God out of your business. You just need to keep people out of your business. Make him the centre and in due time he will perfect all things that which concerneth you. His timing might be a bit off in your eyes but he is always on time and always there when you call.

I hope this have encouraged someone today in some way and keep holding on….there is a light at the end of the tunnel and if you can’t see a light create your own light and keep pushing. If you’re not seeing what you’re waiting for, go out and find it and don’t allow the past to hold you down. It’s done its job of teaching you life lessons, cut the ties and apply the principles to your future.

As hard as life may get, don't give up. Your next miracle or breakthrough might be just one more push away. Keep going. No one remembers the one who gave up..never. Everyone remembers the person who overcome life's trials and tribulation. One example of such would be Michael Jordan. In one of his famous quotes he said:
''I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.''
Imagine if he gave up..

Be unfaithful to your fears and Cheat on them. Break up with all doubts doing the azonto in your head. Start making engagement plans with your faith and waste no time matching up the aisle to your dreams wearing that white gown or that bespoke suit. Cut all ties that don’t add value to your life…they are nothing but excess baggage!

Stay blessed, keep smiling and allow God to be the centre even in the midst of your struggles.

''If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.''
~ Michael Jordan

Till then...

Stick and Stones….

The Mighty Power Of Words!

Remember the old adage …….'Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me'.

Sticks and stones will break my bones …yes it will break you surely, but words will never harm me…No it won’t darling, but best believe it will damage you and leave you feeling like a worthless tissue paper. Now that's the power of words. What would you prefer...a good beating or a good tell off?

Don't underestimate it

Physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally, words are way more damaging than sticks and stones. Basically, if someone opens their mouth on you…hmmm and I mean OPEN…you will wish a fire wood was thrown at you instead.

That adage is a whole lot of lie…yea I said it! (Shoot me) But then again I guess some people see it easier to shake off an insult than heal wounds. What they don’t know is words leave an everlasting stigma which is sometimes unknown to us until later in the future.

When I was young, naive and clueless, I used this adage a lot. It was evident I didn't know better. It made me feel tough and brave and fearless.  But as I grew up, I gradually realised that in fact the most powerful tool ever available to man is the tongue.

The Tongue is indeed very powerful– The question is, are you going to use it to break or to make?

Every so often we underestimate the power of words that comes out of our mouth. We really don’t know its value and capability to make or break someone or a situation.

With few kind and considerate words, you can save someone from committing suicide and with few hateful and spiteful words you can be the cause of someone’s death. Believe it or not, it is possible.

The tongue is a very small organ which is capable of bringing a man as tall as 6ft to the ground with ease. Words have power and must not be taken lightly. You really don’t want to use your tongue to be the cause of someone’s misery. Our prime purpose in life is to help each other, if you can’t help them at least don’t hurt them. My Aunt once said to me; if you don’t have anything good to say then don’t say anything at all. You have to know when to open your mouth and when to keep it shut….Now that is what my granny would describe as wisdom.

Some people take absolute pleasure in being someone’s misery. Are you that type of person? But why? Does your next meal depend on it? That Cruella De Vil movement needs to stop!  Watch what you say and think before you utter anything. No one is paying you to talk and I am sure your mouth won’t stink from few moments of thoughtful silence. If we knew how many times our words were misinterpreted, there would be much more silence in the world.

You want to drop a criticism, do it with caution and wisdom. Send your message across but don’t stamp all over the person. Always watch your tongue because you don’t want to leave someone more distressed and broken than when you first met them. If you’re not going to make a positive impact on someone’s life then I think it’s best to....leaave it yehhh!!

When you’re full of anger, be extra careful with your words. Surely you don’t have time to think when you’re blazing, but when has blazing ever solved any problems? Stop, Put that fire out, calm down, and think before you utter something you’ll regret. Words once said can’t be undone, no matter how many sincere apologies offered. The scars still remain. Scars that won’t heal easily.

If you can’t lift someone up with your tongue then you have no business pulling anyone down. You’re upset and things aren't going your way so you….shout, scream and set someone’s soul on fire with your hurtful words. After your rampage all of a sudden you feel good. You feel satisfied. You feel like a champ….yea! You feel like the King of the jungle Yea!   * Breaths down & Beats Chest*

OK King  Kong!  Now what? (My friend you have a problem. Get it together)

Well I've got news for you, you ain't a champ, you’re the biggest coward! You ain't no King Kong you’re just a tiny miserable mosquito who seizes every opportunity to torment people’s lives. That satisfaction you’re feeling is not really a sense of satisfaction, that is you using someone else to make you feel good about yourself and look better. That my dear is you being very insecure and displaying the highest level of low self-esteem.

More importantly, that is bullying, and just in case you are wondering bullying is not just physical. Some of us our words are greater bullies than our physical self. Your mood must never dictate your manners. Sort it out before it eats you out. Remember whatever you can’t control, controls you. Sometimes it’s not so much what we say; it’s more to do with how we say it. Child, Watch ya tongue.

Below is a short clip on the power of words.

An awesome video which emphasizes the point made above:
It's not so much what you say but how you say it.

It takes one swift moment to destroy someone’s confidence with your words which took them years to build. Your unbridled tongue can destroy the strongest person. Your loose tongue can tarnish one's character to an unbuildable level. Your destructive tongue can whip a man down to tears. Your insensitive tongue can take away someone’s pride. STOP and THINK before you speak. Don’t let your mouth run faster than your brain can think, If it does then you my friend have got a big problem.

Moaning and complaining, you are never satisfied or almost impossible to satisfy so therefore you spread your negative energy, bringing everyone to your level. Party pooper!! Nothing or no one is ever good enough for you. Hold up; is your life really that sad?! Use your tongue to praise and compliment, it’s refreshing. Try it sometime.

Insults and gossiping… Help us baby Jesus!! G O S S I P I N G! Hmmm if you meet some people you would think our purpose on earth was to gossip and raining abuses. All they give out is bad vibes...left right and centre. They will spare no expense in running up the phone bill just to spread rumours. Is your life that short of amusement?! If you know the dent gossiping leaves on one’s character then you will rethink whenever you want to spread rumours. If it’s not yours to share don’t share! If you must share anything, share positivity.

Haven’t you heard?  ’’What you say of sally says more of Susie than of sally’’ In other words be careful what you say about other people, you might be revealing a bit of yourself there.

The aim of our lord Jesus Christ when he decided to give us tongues was to bless, heal and pick up others when they’re down. The bible doesn't condone reckless behaviour. Matthew Chapter 12 verse 36 states:  ’’I tell you, on the Day of Judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.’’

Two eyes, two ears and one Mouth, only one mouth….Now let's take a moment and thank God that we only have one mouth. That’s a blessing right there. God knew what he was doing when he created mankind because Sometimes I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if we all had two mouths. Whenever you have the urge to misbehave, just think ….two eyes, two ears and one mouth. Let that be your guide.

Words have so much effect on us and most of the time we don’t have a clue. A prime example would be a shop with a big bright sales card stating over 50% off. The moment you see that you get excited because we all love free stuff.

The Power Of Words
You enter the shop, spend money you don’t have and leave with bags full of items you don’t even need. You buy because you saw the word sale in bright red and more so for over 50% off. Most times the discount on the items is not even over 50% off, however the choice of words lured you in and you didn't bother checking. The Power of words.

If you are still in doubt of the power of words, ask the politicians. They use the right words at the right time to get what they want. When a new government is about to take office, the people expect change so they preach change and what they deliver don't matter. The talk is pretty much what they do best. The people believe and cast their votes. How many of them deliver what they preach? The power of words!

In relationships, we use words like I love you. I hate you. People don’t forget these words. These are words people keep close to their hearts. All the more reason why we must think before we speak. If you don’t mean it, don’t say it. Hearts are often broken; trust lost and lives are never the same again. Don’t be the one responsible. The power of words.

One powerful line which perfectly illustrates the power of words for me is ’’I have a dream’’ by Martin Luther King JR. This is a short line spoken by a powerful activist. This line commands a movement, it empowers and encourages growth.  Even if you’re not a dreamer it makes you want to become one. This line persuades, inspires and breaks down walls. It makes you want to do more. That is how powerful words are. He could have chosen to say something negative but he spoke wisdom and positivity. Up to this day ‘’I have a dream’’ lives on. Choose your words carefully you never know who you might inspire.

Be warned!

Do you speak fine, kind, loving and positive words into your life every day? Do you ever remember to bless someone other than yourself? The bible says in Proverbs, Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.

Parents….Do you speak life and positivity into your children's  lives? Use the power of words to your advantage and be a blessing. Select the words you use as you select the finest food from a fine menu. If need be, change your regular vocabulary and be a better person.

We are all humans and we fall short. No one is perfect. All we have to do is try to bridle our tongues and be a better person. As they say, practice makes perfect. One day you will look back and say Yes I am the master of my tongue. Let your tongue be your best asset and take responsibility for what comes out of your mouth. Not everything that comes into your mind must come out of your mouth. Learn to think.

Howeverrrrr, No one said don’t talk. Your voice is your power, so by all means use it and use with wisdom. A wise man fills his brain before he empties his mouth.

Your mouth is a fountain, you are either sprinkling living water or contaminated water. Whenever you speak you breathe life into words.

What would you be bringing to life when you speak?  Speak something today that changes someone's tomorrow.

Till then …xoxo

My Faith Was Restored Koro Koro

Just when i was about to give up on Sierra Leone music and boom! I stumbled upon a video on Facebook that just restored my faith in Sierra Leone music. My people there is hope.

Yes my faith has been restored. On this lazy day, right under my duvet on a cold winter’s day my faith was restored and I hope it’s not the last I hear from her.

The song which inspired this blog post is called Boss/ Koro koro which was produced by the record label Diamonds from Sierra Leone (DSL) and beautifully sung by Esther Sesay featuring the creative Alieu Bio who is better known by his stage name G Money The Royal Emp’.

We all know what boss means but Koro koro in our local means not afraid of anything or strong. It could mean seen with a clear vision in a way you can’t deny. I stand corrected but I think the meaning differs depending on the context in which it’s been used. However the song is about women’s empowerment, women’s independency and women being in charge. I love the whole concept of the song maybe that is why I am so drawn towards it.

The beat had my curiosity but the level of talent in the song, to be precised her voice caught my attention. The voice behind the song, Boss/Koro Koro is the talented Esther Fatima Sesay who is an 18 year old R&B singer from Sierra Leone, did you hear what I just said….she is from the Lion Mountain. In fact both talents on the song hailed from Sierra Leone. Esther Fatima Sesay writes and arranges all her songs and for someone who’s never been to any formal song or lyric writing course, I’ll say she is absolutely brilliant. That's not all, she has 2 official videos out already and 6 songs online, all at the tender age of 18!

Now wait till I tell you all about this talented chick. She attended the Limount College, graduated 2 years ago and came out with the second best O’level results. She didn't just stop there, she went on to pursue a career in accountancy and she is currently enrolled in ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). In the words of the CEO of DSL Mr Alie Forna, she is brains too and i can't help but agree. Esther is all beauty, talent and brains.

Esther Fatima Sesay - Beauty, Talent & Brains

Do you feel inspired already? I do because she didn't allow music to stand in the way of her career pursuit. She does have her wits about her and for that I say Bravo and keep it up.

Once the fame gets into your head and the fortune starts greeting your pockets, people get easily distracted. We see it every day, artists release few songs and by the time you know it they've forgotten about all their other pursuits and the fame and fortune just overshadows everything else. Few years down the line they are back to square one where they started. If you take a close look at some of the successful musicians that we listen to, they’re all doing bits on the side, they don’t just sing. Example of such would be Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

I listened the song once and I pressed replay….the second time I was humming and by the 3rd replay I thought I was Esther for a minute. That’s how I knew I just stumbled upon a rare thing….good solid Sierra Leone Music.

Not forgetting due credits to G Money…his raucous voice just added that extra chilli and maggi seasoning to the song which just gave it that extra humph and left me yearning for more (Yes we are still talking about music....hold tight) hehe

More importantly I watched the video and I saw zero nudity, heard zero vulgar language and saw no wanna be gangster or wanna be pop star….Just raw talent. It is a decent video which I can comfortably give to a ten year old to watch to. Do you know how hard it is to find a PG13 music video these days?

                                                 Boss/Koro Koro ~ A DSL production.
                                                   Video directed by Nick Asgill

Even the rapper was well dressed which i admired; no boxer on show, no grills... (I hate that piece of metal) or baggy trousers running down towards his ankle or bling-bling to blind me. African music videos that conform to the American lifestyle irk my soul. This video was refreshing and as I am penning this down it has been on a non-stop repeat. (I think I need to stop)

While I am at it I might as well highlight my favourite part of the video which was at the beginning when Esther was entering the board room with fellow colleagues all suited and booted. I absolutely loved that scene. It was a mile better to watch than the usual booty shaking that normally greets me when i first click on music videos.

I must applaud the production team Diamonds From Sierra Leone (DSL), including Nick Asgill who directed the video for such refreshing 4 minutes of my life.

This is an exemplary video which I think (well i hope) has set the pace for other artists…nudity and vulgarity is not the way forward. You might come across hard at first but when all that is stripped away people are going to need to see the real talent and there would be none. Nowadays it’s like everyone is sworn by nudity. I know they say sex sells but don’t be fooled it does have an expiry date.

I used to love Sierra Leone music and I still do but over the years I have slowly grown out of it. Maybe I just grew up or maybe I am getting old but I don’t think there’s enough competition to fire up the creative side amongst the artists or maybe the focus is on the wrong agenda. I believe your music must inspire, motivate and revive. When I listen to a song, by the end of that 3 minutes or more I shouldn't feel the same way I was feeling when i started listening to the song in the first place. I must feel revived, motivated or inspired. If your music is not doing any one of the following then I think you have failed as an artist.

I want to abuse the replay button when I listen to your songs Sierra Leone Musicians…so for the love of music please step up! Think outside the box and while you are at it, think of your listeners for we are your audience. We are in Africa and we are Africans for crying out loud, when you write your songs look around you and be inspired, stop singing about girls, money, fame and power. The American artists give us enough of that, when we come home we want to feel like we're home. If you shadow your focus with the unimportant things what are you passing on to your listeners? Think about it.

Having said that, I wish Esther all the very best in her future endeavours and truly hopes she continues towards the direction of her dreams. I would be looking forward to more masterpiece production from DSL and the team.

Mama taught me to say thank you. Therefore i must acknowledge Mr Melvic Greene as this blog wouldn't have been possible without his help. He is slowly becoming my go-to guy and never gets tired of my disturbing texts regardless of the time of the day. I appreciate your tolerance and time.

I would also like to thank the CEO of DSL, Mr Alie Forna who took time out to satisfy my curiosity by answering my 1,001 questions. I appreciate your time.

Esther forgive me for stealing your picture off Facebook. :)

Disclaimer:

I do not know the artist Esther Sesay and this is not a favouritism post. If I see a talent worth appreciating I waste no time in doing so. As they say, give credits where one is due. This is solely based on my personal taste and judgement on the music industry in Sierra Leone.

.......and i hope you all enjoyed your Easter holidays and had a better one than i did. I was right under my duvet seen that Mother Nature is acting like she's on drugs. With snow in spring.... I'm baffled but music makes everything better and Koro Koro was just the remedy.

Till next time....xoxo

My definition of Paradise

Allow me to introduce my Paradise...its name is
S I E R R A    L E O N E

Beautiful Beaches, golden sand, accommodating people with a heart of gold. Blessed with natural resources beyond measures...diamond, bauxite, iron ore and gold. It's always a sight to behold, whether it's a stroll along the beach or just watching the sunset. Trees dancing to the rhythm of the wind and sunshine to add that extra humph to your day. Oh the memories!

Let Me Explain......
Sierra Leone...Yes! That is my definition of paradise. I am sure your curious minds are now running a riot thinking why would anyone called Sierra Leone a PARADISE?
Well calm your minds because I’m about to explain just why a country not widely known or a country so small can be defined as paradise. It is not impossible; in fact it’s the only paradise I know.

Living in England for the past years, I can comfortably say I know what comfort and luxury is and I have grown to appreciate it all but nothing comes close to when December draws near and it’s that time of the month again to board my flight to Freetown, Sierra Leone. Do you know the kind of joy that overcomes my soul? No, you wouldn’t know but maybe by the time I finish my explanation you will get the gist.  Leggoo

I hate parting with my hard earned cash but I spare no expense in buying my not-so-cheap ticket to The Lion Mountain, Sierra Leone...because what I get back in return is priceless compared to the price of the ticket. My friend you cannot put a price on Paradise but true say, tickets need to be cheaper so I can be going as often as I wish. Hmmm......why don’t I pack my bags and go for good, now that would be a lasting solution isn't? Soon…..Very soon. :)

Landing in Sierra Leone, everyone on board the flight sings local chants, depending on the time of the season. Most of the time the flight is 99% Sierra Leoneans and the rest doesn't normally have much choice but to join in any way they can, even if its just by smiling. You know what they say…if you can’t beat em, join em. Now how many flights do you go on that passengers sing on their arrival? None, except if you're going on a school trip or maybe a part of a football team or something of the sort. Well, what can i say, sierra Leoneans are pretty amazing people so expect nothing short of amazement. This is a priceless moment and it goes to show generally how happy people are just returning back home, even if it's for a short time.
However, if you are still half asleep as you step out of the plane, the slap across your face from the hot air is bound to wake you up. If that doesn’t then I don’t know what will. Crazily, that moment of suffocation is one I always look forward to. (I am perfectly OK, all my screws are in place ...don’t worry).

Getting your luggage: Oh the struggle!!  This part is not for the faint hearted. Picture this...it's hot and sticky. Noisy and chaotic. Packed and not well ventilated...My friend it's the World War 2 all over again! My stress level rises to an immeasurable height and for a brief moment I asked myself, what am I doing here?! Nonetheless, this is quickly forgotten. My time spent in Sierra Leone erases the above chaotic moments from my memory...well till the next time of course.
After all the rush of getting my luggage, I am then greeted at the airport by my ever smiling cousins or sometimes my friends. After that luggage mayhem, the smiles and excitement on their faces is an antidote. That moment again is priceless. By the time I board my speed boat to go across from Lungi Airport to Freetown I am just filled with excitement for a fun-filled holiday.
As the Taxi pulls up, my relatives will start a shout of joy ….e don kam, e don kam, e don kam which in my local means she is here! That is also their own way of saying thanks to God for your safe arrival, although prayers never go amiss. No matter how hungry you are…that prayer is going to take place. Sorry eh, that hunger just have to wait!

Living in England you don't really eat your local as much as you would like neither do you get the same authentic taste you'll get from all the fresh vegetables and ingredients used to prepare a serious local...in my case Cassava leaves which is my all-time favourite. My dearest aunt knows the deal and I was pleasantly greeted by a 5 man portion rice and cassava leaves, no meat or chicken....just fish! Oh yea…..just what the doctor prescribed. After the destruction of that dish, it was bed time seen that my plans of going clubbing was sadly thrashed when my flight got delayed...and I was knackered!

An authentic plate of Cassava Leaves on a bed  of Rice!

There’s is only one word that can define my bed in Africa….. Magic! Massive, fresh linings combined with a full stomach of authentic cassava leaves. The tiredness from such a long flight aid a good night's sleep as well. Ha my friend it doesn't get better.....and it was good night. Zzzzzz

First day I am awoken by the glare of the sunlight glistening through my window. Oh the joy! That’s not all, the cock crowing, my cousins shouting my name from down the corridor who can't contain their excitement, the sound of my neighbours' music blaring through our local radio, and the mixed but all so familiar flavours of different local dishes from my neighbours and my auntie’s kitchen. This and many more are my wake up calls. Who needs an alarm?
Breakfast is just the best. Freshly baked bread from the corner shop hits the spot each time.  As I attack the bread with vengeance I worry about my gums sometimes.  This is washed down by an ice cold bottle of Vimto on my veranda as I watch the people go by. You wouldn’t understand! The feeling is heavenly!

Believe me when I say, the Simplest things bring the greatest joy and contentment. If my clothes needed ironing i don't need to wait around for electricity and don’t you worry there is always a backup plan. The good ole gose... (makeshift Iron) to the rescue!!! This is a traditional metal piece used to iron clothes. It can be heated by charcoal or sometimes we just put over the stove for emergency service. This is a trusted device my friend, don’t fret. It does an awesome job. The availability of electricity is never an issue, as long as my Nokia 1100 is fully charged I am covered for at least two days.
The good ole goos (Makeshift iron)
The simple things!

What time is it? It’s that time to hit the streets of Freetown and the lovely beaches. By now my friends would have heard about my arrival and they know the deal...we hit the beaches by day and night clubs by night. In short, we paint the town red. Moreover, I am bound to see familiar faces and lots of catching up to do which I always look forward to. Nearest to my house is Lumley Beach which I can comfortably walk to in less than 15 minutes. Now tell me how blessed I am.

Sunset at Sussex Beach- Sierra Lone

My favourite beach however has to be Number 2 beach where the sand is silver and the sea is blue. I am not playing, this is utter paradise.  It's a trek from my house, even in a car but I always look forward to my time at Number 2 Beach. Too bad I can’t swim...even if my life depended on it! The seafood you get there spells delicious. Fresh from the boats, well-seasoned and tasty too... I am talking about real authentic flavours. The taste is absolutely glorious. Oh lawd...all i can say is ''Take Me Back''  What do you know about my paradise?? Ha!

The night life is very much alive...the beach bars, clubs and restaurants serve cold beer and our local Star beer never fails to satisfy and you won’t forget it in a hurry. The music, the atmosphere and the night vibes are to die for. You think New York is the city that never sleeps...you my friends haven’t been to Sierra Leone. We don’t sleep; we party day and night, dusk till dawn, seven days a week!

Basking in the sun at Lumley Beach with our local Star Beer at hand!

Let me quickly add that the sun doesn't play. I am dark already but it never fails to give me that extra added shine making me look like a fine charcoal. For this reason that ice-cold, thirst-quenching water always comes in handy. The way i suck the life out of that packet of water ...

The parties, the beach outings, the chilling...need I say more? We party hard. How can I forget the day we arrived home 7:30 am after one of the best nights. It was a party to remember, good company just added that extra laughs and fun, alcohol overflow kept the mood on form, good music kept me on the dance floor all night, the vibes was simply awesome.....what more can I ask for. My Paradise…

Oh I haven’t told you how accommodating Sierra Leoneans are. With our charming gents and beautiful ladies.... you will never feel like a stranger. Sierra Leone is HOME to all. For every time I visit, I make new friends. The vibe is always refreshing.

In Sierra Leone the daily flex is called Hakuna Matata - No worries!  Nothing…. Absolutely nothing bothers my soul! I don’t go on social networks and yet I don’t feel bored, I don’t have the luxury I have in England and yet I am filled with contentment, I don’t wear makeup but my skin is flawless (the sun does wonders, even my pimple makes a run for the hills), I don’t have electricity nor efficient water supply and yet I don’t feel deprived. Need I say I always put on extra pounds by the time I hit Heathrow airport?  I think you would have guessed that anyway.

On a more serious note, the simple things fill me with utmost joy. I dread the goodbyes, leaving my loved ones behind and not knowing when next I’ll see them. Despite all the means of communication these days, Whatsaap, Skype, text, phone calls etc. None of them come close to the feeling you get when you actually hug them in your arms. For that reason, I always try to fill my holidays with beautiful, lasting memories that i will hold close to my heart till next time.

Remember life is not about the big happenings, it is about the little simple moments that you look back on and realise just how blessed you are. You don’t need a lot to be happy, just enough to be content because a lot is not equivalent to happiness.

My friend, Happiness is everything , everything else is overrated.

Sierra Leone is my paradise, my solace and a place filled with all my childhood memories so going back is always a pleasure for me. Ti's true what they say.......No Place Like Home!

Do you have a solace, a place where you call paradise? Lets hear about it.

Till next time...

Let's Talk About Love

Its St Valentine's day and being the hopeless romantic that I am, I can't help but give y'all something to munch on. Some people despise this day, some people live for this day and some people just don't give two rats about this day. I am not going to dwell on what Valentine's day is all about because even a six year old can give you a mind blowing lecture on it. It's Lover's day y'all. :)

Abort Bitterness & Enjoy the Day

Let's talk about love.

What Is Love To You?

For me I think love is a mental illness....no joke. The way it takes over your senses...*nods head* and the funny thing is we don't know it, in fact we never do till reality slaps us across the face that is if we're lucky. It is a Mental illness because when you fall in love you are never the same. Even the most sensible person lose it when they're in love. You on the outside start asking questions and wondering what is going on. But looking on from the outside you can never understand the whole picture.Well that's the beauty of love. It's between the two and what they share or what is holding them together is something an onlooker will never be able to lay a finger on and that's because love is not meant to be understood neither do you need a reason to love. You just love because you love. See how that sounded a bit confusing....it goes on to show, Love is not there for you to study it. Give it up....you'll fail miserably my friend.

The Power Of Love....Have you been affected?

When someone is in love, nothing really seems to matter. Sensible advise just sounds like gibberish to you and you become totally oblivious to your surroundings. It might not be the right love and all the warning signs might be flashing but you just do a Stevie Wonder to them signs.... the power of love! That feeling I personally think is the best feeling in the world. I don't care if I am going to hit my last toe painfully in the end or if it will all end in a minute. For that moment I'm happy and my happiness is all that matters, even if it's short lived. Regrets don't live here, no matter what, just lessons learnt. Most times these are moments that you will hardly forget in your entire life. These are moments you start to make life stories. Being in love and being loved back in return is a high no drugs is able to lift you to. And that my friends is love for ya.

Are You Bitter About Love or do You Embrace Love Despite all Your Short Comings?

I think love is something we should not give up on because a life with no love is a sad life which gets lonely sometimes. Some people have a mind that is bullet proof against love, love can't penetrate and even if love slaps them across the face they won't notice. These people have shut their hearts down totally and the word love which is supposed to bring a smile now brings about pain. These people are bitter and that is a dangerous place to be. You might not get it right the first time or the second time but in the end have some faith that you will. What is a love story without trials? The greatest love stories normally include blood, sweat and tears. Once bitten, twice shy? I totally understand this but don't let one bad experience spoil it for you because you could be missing out on something good....something real good! Embrace love but while you're at it don't forget a little bit of self loving till the right one comes along.

Do They Scare You?

It's no competition. It's not a marathon. It's not the Olympics and it's definitely not a game. We all know these people that paint the picture of a perfect relationship and claims everyday is Valentines Day. Really?   Liars..Liars Liars!! In this chaotic and busy world we live in, are you trying to tell us that you're all loved up everyday or you have time to express your feelings everyday? OK! GTFOH!! They make you feel inadequate? Don't be! You have your own choices to make and your own life to live. The picture you might be seeing from the outside can be totally different from the actual life they're living. Things are not always what they seem. 99% of the time, they ain't about that life. Don't get jealous and don't get scared even if they have the perfect relationship. Wish them well and believe its perfect for them but not right for you. Live your life and when you're least expecting it, love waltz into your life...because that's the way love goes.

This post can go on and on and on but y'all got plan for V.Day. hehehe....Let me don't hold you up.

If you're happily in love, enjoy the day and show your other half just how much he or she means to you despite you not showing it everyday.

If You're single and sad, don't drown yourself in a tub of ice cream, gym membership is not cheap.  There's hope. Invest in some self loving, smile and make an opening for love....It'll be worth it. ;)

If you're single and happy....continue to stay happy but don't stay too happy and comfortable for too long. Everyone needs somebody. :)

If you are happily married.....don't get too comfy and forget to show your partner how much they mean to you. It's easy to get comfy when you've got it in the bag. Remember, it's not just about bagging it, it's about keeping it....not only keeping it but keeping it fresh and exciting.

But hey ..what do i know.. I'm just a hopeless romantic. :)

Is All We Need

Till Then...

Happy New Year - 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I have the boldness to shout Happy New Year in early February. I tell you I am so ashamed of myself. I have no shame but I believe it is always better late than never....so my readers I shout again in my very Happy and African accent .... *drum roll*

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
*covers face*

Pop your favourite bottle and celebrate life!

I have been on holiday, a very good one at that and i cant wait to update you all on all the good things that I encountered. Needless to say I didn't want to come back but unfortunately and fortunately for me its back to reality. Work hard, Play harder. I have also pretty much been occupied with this thing called life but hey..the good news is I'm back! This time its for the long haul..yea I said it, back for good. Hope all has been well and the new year has been good to you. If it hasn't, you still have 10 and the half months to make that change.

Personally I always look at the new year as a time to turn over a new leaf and look forward to better things. People might tell you that you make a resolution each year but you're still in the same position in life. Just smile and say ''Its my life and I will damn well make as many resolutions as I feel like''. Don't let the noise of the market shadow the things that actually matter to you. Your happiness is concrete, your life is yours and the only thing you just about own. People are always going to talk and try to make you feel as if you haven't been doing much with your life, but what matters most is your conscience. When you are in this dark, lonely place all alone with your thoughts the only thing that is going to count is how well you know you have tried to make things work for you. As the saying goes...its going to be OK in the end and if its not OK then its not the end. Have a little more faith in yourself. I don't want to spoil it for you but in the end its going to be OK. :)

Go ahead and make them resolutions and if you've already done them, give them one more shot as hard as it might seem. Its normally the last key in the bunch that unlocks the door. Keep trying your best and don't rest till your good is better and your better is best.

Because you're worth it and you deserve nothing but the best.

Shine bright like a Diamond, i don't care what you use to shine yourself up, just make sure you stand out in all you do this 2013.

Forget what people think and listen to your inner voice, 99% of the time...its the best advice you'll ever receive.

Go on, celebrate life, some people didn't make the cut into 2013. Now that's something to be grateful about.

Keep your smile swag on and don't let anyone or anything take it from you.

Make it your best year. I know I have plans to.  ;)

Till next time....(which is very soon)
Keep Shining!

Tears don't solve problems but darling, it's OKAY to cry!

We all know tears don't solve problems but i tell you from personal experience it is okay to cry, its okay to break down and its okay to fall apart every now and again. Its all perfectly okay. However the most important thing you must remember is to pick yourself up,dust up and get ready for round two because as long as we are living, problems are bound to waltz their way into our lives. As  you pick and dust yourself don't forget that every fall is a lesson learnt and every scar tells a story. A story that says you were wounded but you survived. You are a survivor.

I might be young but I have gone through some trying times and for me to tell you to cry when you want to means i totally understand what it feels like to bottle it all up and never letting it out. You don't have to tell the world your problems because they will never give you a solution. Cry all you want and shed all the tears you want but whatever you do - Let it go.

Don't be ashamed to cry, cry when your heart is troubled and cry whenever you have to. While some will look upon tears as a sign of weakness I can assure you that shedding tears is not a sign of weakness. You can only act strong for so long before the tears come rolling down. There is no point in acting strong when deep inside you are breaking in pieces, Cry and let it out. After a good cry I always feel better, you should try it sometimes. What do you prefer? To look like superman from the outside and inside you're like jelly? No, you don't have to be strong for anyone else but yourself. So refuse to be troubled by what people will think of your tears. Inwardly you know your hurting so cry if you must. You're only human.

Quote
“We need never be ashamed of our tears.”
― Charles DickensGreat Expectations

Tears is from the heart and the heart is a deep place where so many emotions are stored. Emotions that are  often unspoken, emotions that we have been bottling up for so long, emotions that we don't want anyone to hear of. So when that feeling of crying overcomes you don't suppress it. Its unbelievable how relieved one feels after a good cry. Tears can relieve so much pain and stress.

We've all gone through those times, times when we feel like our world is crumbling down and there is  no one to turn to. Times when it feels like the sun refuses to shine and times when we feel so unloved and all we crave is a hug and someone to say its going to be al-right  - Financial troubles, disappointment,  sickness, a failed direct debit, a car that refuses to start in the morning, court cases, bailiffs knocking your front door down, Kids not keeping well, a failed relationship, losing a loved one, unemployment, unfulfilled dreams .....the list goes on.

We can't do it on our own. that's why we have a God above us, where we can cast all our burdens, and turn to for help in times of trouble. He can lift us up when we least expect it and HE is always the answer. He is able for with Him nothing is impossible. I know the hardest thing to do is to Praise God when you're going through tough times and the only question that comes to your mind is ''Why Me?'' but we have to believe that God gives his toughest battle to his strongest soldiers who can endure. He never gives you a burden that you cannot carry. He is able.

Remember, crying is not a sign of weakness and don't forget we cry when we're happy too. So next time you feel that overwhelming urge to cry, please don't hesitate to let it all out. Don't forget to dust and pick yourself up and more importantly don't be a fool, learn from every bad situation.

Till then..let it flow.

Money Talks! Does it Really??

''Money talks, Bullshit walks.'' OK!

I am sure that 99% of us have heard and used this quote, even me! (ain't gonna lie) But I'm coming to realised that most of these quotes are just there to make people feel hard and gangsta-like ( don't lie we all have them days were you just wanna grunt like Rick Ross and walk like Biggie Smalls) i know i do. Especially when i am listening to my gangster songs on my ipod...sad life!

I'll say the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

Let us get back to the money talks quote. I understand that the society we live in is rotten and devoid of all its value it ever had due to the love of money. People will lie for you, lie to you and even bend backwards for money. People will throw away all what they were taught as a child and degrade themselves to an irreparable level, just because of money. I grew up in Africa and i have seen these things..yep i have. Live too,no Hollywood or Nollywood business. It does happen. Money makes people forget all life's values and i don't just mean the lack of money but also the presence of money does that to people. It is a shame, but money does have a very loud voice in some people's lives especially when their next meal depends on it.

Only if you give it the power to - You are in control.

Money may have a voice in some people's lives and situation, yes i agree but only if you allow it to. Those who believe in life's morals and refuse to succumb to the pressures of this world, still hold their grounds.I personally say BRAVO to such species. One thing i have noticed though is that you have the rich and you have the wealthy. Trust me there is a big difference between the two. The rich act like Money is everything and flashes it at every single opportunity they get because they ain't used to it while the wealthy on the other hand don't even need to make a force, you actually notice them, when they walk pass you, you ''take two'' like a amateur photographer. Now that is what i define as money!

Looking at society, Money does have a voice to an extent, infact to a very large extent but you have to put a cap on it or else you will eventually lose it! Like mentally. Don't get me wrong, everyone wants to have money in abundance, including me but its the power that we give to it that makes it evil and that is what i am against. Dont allow money to talk in your life, you speak to your money..afterall who work and earns it through hard labour?? If money masters your life, hmmm you my friend is finished!

However, when it comes to matters of the heart, like love and relationship, money MUST never have a voice. I cannot emphasis this enough. The moment you give voice to money, the relationship loses its value and the bullshit grow legs and starts to walk hence the other half of the quote. To be frank you shouldn't be in a relationship if money is all that counts. Come to think of it, there is a name for people like you if all your Small mind thinks about is money. Now this issue on its on is an entire blog. (Watch This Space)

I thank God for the way i was brought up. I was brought up in Sierra Leone by my grandmother in a very large family where we didn't have the best of everything but we made the most out of every single situation, no matter what. You guys would probably won't understand but money was never an issue. Not because we had it overflowing in the bank or under our pillows, but because we had each other and looked out for each other. We carried each other and up to this day, we are one another's keeper. Now show me the space for Money to have a voice or for bullshit to walk. No Chance! One thing is for sure we would have given Bullshit crutches long time ago! We never made money an issue because when its all said and done, when the curtains are pulled down, when the going gets tough, its only LOVE that will pull us through. Money is not everything! Love is greater than money. Yea i know some people will disagree but in my world, Money is definitely not everything. Money will only be your everything if you allow it to be.

My Family : ....and this is not even a fraction of us!

In some situation that you may  be faced with in life, all you  need is a winning personality, other times all the recipient needs is your trust therefore money is essential but it is the combination of so many other things and attributes that gets you the result. You will never know this till you are in a situation where money doesn't make a difference.

Remember:

MONEY TALKS...yes! ( But only if you give it a voice!)

BULLSHIT WALKS.... No way, Hosay!

Till then...xoxo

Recipe For Success

I came across this post on one of the social websites and i thought to share. Hope it inspires you in a way. I found it very inspiring and true in many ways than one. All of them are very beneficial towards the pursuit of success but my favourite one would have to be ''Think Creatively'' It might surprise you but so many people have succeeded in life through creative thinking and they are very well known in society. Example of some of these people will have to be Steve Job (RIP) for the invention of Apple products and Bill Gates for the invention of Microsoft. These are just two prominent people in society that lived to make a mark through creative thinking.

This goes to show that we must never underestimate ourselves. If the above great men had, i don't think I'll be mentioning them on here today. So many other people are making a decent living out of their creativity and creativity means someone is actually enjoying what they do..its called talent. What better way to make a living than doing your hobby or past time?

It is sometimes a very tricky thing - discovering our talent and i can't say for sure i have discovered mine but i know i have discovered my passion. Our talent and passion can easily be mixed up in the journey of discovering our talent but don't you worry, you are not alone.

Discover your talent and go on to make a fortune if you can. What is holding you back?

Till then..xoxo

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told

I have come to realise that, Love is a tad overrated these days. Yes it is. People use the word so frequently that it has lost its meaning in most cases. However, Methinks there is still hope for True love but none beats the one Jesus portrayed on the cross for a poor wretched sinner like me. For me that is the ultimate love story.

Jesus died for us sinners on the cross. In the bible,John 3:16 stated that for God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son, that who so ever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. (Pay attention to the word ''ONLY'') This verse in the bible pretty much summed up the crucifixion of Jesus.

Of all my 20 something years i have never known of a love so real and so true that someone will lay their lives for me, but Jesus did it for me on the cross and i am grateful. I know so many people look forward to Easter and still oblivious to the reason for the season. The reason for Easter is the celebration that Christ rose from the grave on the third day thereby giving Christians hope for the future. It's all good to mount your kites, go on several trips and plan which clubs would be playing the latest banger but please know the reason for the celebration and refuse to be ignorant when knowledge is available.

Jesus Christ was not only crucified, he was mocked, spat on,ridiculed, beaten and asked to carry his own cross ( that cross signifies our sins ). In the process he fell three times, with a crown of thorns on his head and hands were pierced with nails and hanged on the cross to die. All this he did so you and i can have eternal life. Now do you know of anyone that will go through such torture for you? Do you really? If you ask me i don't know of anyone that will sacrifice their lives for me...nope no one! And to be honest, i haven't seen the person i am going to die for yet. Is it even happening??
If you see that person please tell him/her i want an autograph before they die!

This brings me to the point that, if Jesus who was the son of God was talked about, ridiculed and whipped for no reason at all, who am i to loose sleep when humans talk evil of me or provoke me? Who am i? This just encouraged me and teaches me to turn a blind eye and don't give them the time of the day. A lot of us wants the glory but without the crown. Through Jesus' journey, i learnt that for glory to arise, one must carry the crown. That way you will learn to appreciate whatever the glory brings because you went through blood and sweat to achieve it. Nowadays we see people doing anything within their possible means to achieve, no one wants to work for it, no one want to wait for their time. It might surprise you but anything you haven't worked for will not last and you will never appreciates its true value. We all can pick a leaf out of the story of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, there is a lot to be learnt.

With that, i hope everyone had a lovely and blessed Easter. Mine was quietly spent with the family and we later went out for some Chinese (My favourite Cuisine)

One question that have been puzzling me....What does Easter has to do with eggs and bunnies?

Please enlighten me. :)

Till then..xoxo
